The Hunted and Haunted Wild

By Sonny Mncedisi Dube

I crawl from here to faraway places

Where I hide my face from a million human faces;

Who have made it their life’s mission to haunt other species;

Species such as myself who are at the verge of extinction

Every species’ life is vital there must be no distinction

Scaly but to kill me is not fair

Exercise care rather than ensnare

Conserve the endangered whilst there is still time lest you leave the forests bare

I scream and hope the world hears my plea;

From across every border and every sea

I implore you to hearken that to conserve wildlife is key
