BIGGEST AMONGST THE FIVE || The Call of the Wild

Image
By Sonny Mncedisi Dube   I toil, I trudge and I turn. Mr Rhinoceros is my name, Sometimes I do think Mr Poacher is insane On a relentless chase, to him my suffering is game, Unbeknownst to him is that I am the ultimate game   He so zealously hunts and haunts my soul. Bringing terror to the wild seems to be his only call, How I wish I could fly or even silently crawl; Beneath the bushes just to save my precious soul. How I wish the rangers could catch and throw him in jail, That his ill-fated exploits may as a consequence fail.   Am I the biggest amongst the five? That I should give my life as the ultimate price! The five cannot be big if short of a single life, Please heed the call of the wild , save the Rhino , save the Big Five.   ABOUT THE AUTHOR SONNY MNCEDISI DUBE is a Law student at the University of Zimbabwe, part of SOFA Student Chapter and a blogger who writes in his personal capacity sonnymncedisi@gmail.co...

CECIL’S LAST WORDS |The Arrow that Pierced the Soul

Image
By Sonny Mncedisi Dube I depart with a heavy heart, but not heavier than the arrow in my soul If you’ve been wondering what cruelty is and you witnessed my fate, then cruelty is what you saw. I’ve known excruciating pain, but this arrow in me stings like nothing I’ve lived before, not even a claw I always prayed that if it be death, let it be a smooth and quick one But I’m left to endure this undue torture for whatever reason, I see none   I can feel it taking comfort in my flesh whilst sucking the life out of me I can feel it raging and ravaging all the living in me I trudge from here to nowhere, there is little life left in me Mine story is over, souls from the farthest parts of the world have come and seen me Aesthetics have come and gone but I never imagined them returning to kill me   I walk for hours, helpless, dying slowly, king of the jungle or not I can’t help the sobbing I am a victim of tried and tested expertise, and my demise is a victory...

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY MOTHER NATURE

Image
By Sonny Mncedisi Dube    Happy mother’s day mother nature, mother of all, mother of many. Your love runs deeper than that of mortal man, maybe a few if any You provide freely in abundance and demand neither silver nor penny We hunt from thy forests and we gather from thy velds We savour the fine fruits, we take comfort in thy beautiful sheds We walk on thine, till the land and thy rains give life to the crop We drink and eat from thine whilst our voices sing from atop Atop the beautiful mountains and hills thou which are a capsule of our hopes The beautiful gaze from thence marvellously embroidered with drizzling drops HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY MOTHER NATURE, your love is indeed unconditional   You give without limit and we devour with neither conscience nor count We lay bare the forests, we burn the velds and thine beauty we discount We pollute, we litter, we kill, cut and capture without regard forgetting that you Oh Dear Mother are the inheritan...

LEADERSHIP FOR THE AFRICA WE WANT || THE UNITED STATES OF AFRICA

Image
By Sonny Mncedisi Dube Africa is above each and everything else a cradle that soothes the soul and a symbol of an intact community featured by cultural diverseness. It is a community that despite the horrors and misfortunes of the yester epochs, a trauma that still tortures its soul to this day has wearily clung to its true identity. Africa is a giant that has had her historical itinerary told from the perspective of its enemy, the worst form bullying and one which is obviously detrimental to the victim. A substantial number of African States sprung from Western colonial dictate and mould hence this historical misfortune which its perpetrators guised as an impartation of civilisation marred the African story for a long time and through the media’s malicious endeavours still do. The continent has had a rough road both in the pre and postcolonial eras, the latter epoch has seen a friction between African home-grown policies and neoliberal endeavours. In the context of a LEADERS...

IS IT LAWFUL TO ENSLAVE THE UNCONSENTING?

Image
🐴A Peep at the Plight of Working and Captive animals. BY SONNY MNCEDISI DUBE It is one usual sombre noon, Zebra who lives in NovemberMan National Park is getting a feel of the weather, practically one of his favourite pastimes. Whilst Zebra is sharing his majestically decorated natural outfit with the environment, Donkey his friend who lives across the fence passes by, laden with load and his master’s whip spitting volumes of pain on his back. Zebra jovially waves at Donkey, a wave which gets in return a subdued nod and Zebra quickly gets the picture that his friend is super-busy hence play and chat time will be later than usual, not that Donkey plays or talks anyway. Donkey is usually quiet, his eyes teary but he is at least man enough to never let the tears decorate his cheeks. Thinks Zebra. In a split second Zebra sadly recalls one of the stories Donkey told him in their usual late night buddy chat after Zebra having convinced him to unburden his heart. Donkey g...
